Dr. Villate served as a staff physician at the Auxilio Mutuo and Pavia Hospitals. She also worked for AeroJet Medical Services, transferring critically ill patients all over the world. Concurrently, she became a certified medical review officer, spending two years working in the field of preventive and occupational medicine for important corporations operating in Puerto Rico.

She became a Staff Internist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Juan for four years and, in addition to her clinical duties, she served as a professor for the Internal Medicine Residency Program of that institution. As chairman of Quality Performance at the VA Hospital, her objectives were always directed towards age management and preventive medicine for the aging veterans.
